Posting assignment (due 9/18)
Post 2 / Research
Following up on your last article post, let's discuss the source of information.
Information sources refer to the origins or channels from which individuals obtain data, facts, knowledge, or insights. These sources can be diverse and encompass various mediums and formats. Information sources are critical in shaping our understanding of the world, contributing to the foundation of knowledge and decision-making processes. https://www.lisedunetwork.com/sources-of-information/
1. Using the list below, make sure your article is suitable for the project.
- Is it news?
- A news article is a writing that provides concise and factual information to a reader. News stories typically report on current affairs that are noteworthy—including legislation, announcements, education, discoveries or research, election results, public health, sports, and the arts.
- Unlike blog and opinion posts, a strong news article doesn’t include personal opinion, speculation, or bias. Additionally, the diction and syntax should be accessible to any reader, even if they’re not deeply familiar with the topic. News stories, therefore, don’t contain jargon that you might find in a research paper or essay.
- News is Timely/Current. It is a story about something that is happening today.
- Is the article from a credible source? Here are some things to consider:
- Is any website credible?
- What is a news organization?
- Who is viewed as a journalist? Can anyone be a journalist?
- What is an opinion piece, or blog piece?
- Is a think tank a credible source?
- Who is the author? (Authority)
- What is the purpose of the content? (Accuracy)
- Where is the content from? (Publisher)
- Why does the source exist? (Purpose and Objectivity)
- How does this source compare to others? (Determining What’s What)
3. Title your post "Post 2 / Research / [working title of your project]"
- Include an image from the story or your sketch about the topic.
- (2-3 paragraphs) What were some questions that came out of your research from last week? Try to look for answers using at least 3-5 online sources (different authors and publications).
- PDF all the web pages you found with important details and keep them for your record
- Summarize your findings. (Cite your sources)
- (1-2 paragraphs) Start thinking about your project. What art intervention would you like to make?
- Working definitions of art intervention
- Art that interferes/interrupts/intervenes status quo.
- Status quo: the existing state of affairs, especially regarding social or political issues.
