My BFA show will consist of a series of Victorian houses painted throughout different seasons. The article I provided gives insight into how Victorian houses came to be and how the style spread to the United States. The homes can be differentiated by their gable roofs, bay windows, stained glass (if any), gingerbread trimmings, and intricate moldings.

Since my graduation date is drawing near, my partner and I have been “window shopping" through neighborhoods in Massachusetts, specifically older districts with Victorian houses and buildings. With so many modern buildings being built, I make sure to stop and appreciate the Victorian architecture in New England and take photos. I’ve always loved historical homes and their beauty never ceases to astound me.

I thought it would be a great opportunity to paint Victorian Gothic homes because it allows me to focus on asymmetrical shapes and ornate details, which I haven’t had a chance to explore in my previous work. Beyond the architectural details, the style and themes I’m aiming for in my BFA project are an eerie and sombre atmosphere, and a Victorian home never fails to deliver when placed in that setting.
