Art review: Illustrator Pedro Jimenez By Cierrah Kelly

The artist's name is Pedro Jimenez, and the artwork's title is " Kitchen.” It was created in 2024. The piece itself is a digital illustration that is 3000 x 4000 pixels. There’s numerous peculiarities of the piece, for starters in the back I see a reference/easter egg to the show “Gravity Falls”, there’s also deer antlers that is on the same shelf with the character that is drawn from the show, there’s a beautifully drawn glass table, above the glass table is the glass ceiling that has so much sunlight shining through. We see the light and the shadows cast from it through the kitchen setting. It captures subtle colors that are reflected when sunlight hits glass. Pictures and magnets are also on the fridge in the piece, and the magnets spell out love. There is so much attention to detail in the “Kitchen” illustration that the kitchen feels actually lived in. Overall, it’s a beautifully drawn kitchen in perspective that has a whimsical vibe in the illustration.

I think the artwork's meaning is that it was a standard drawing at first of a kitchen, but soon the artist started to take creative freedom while drawing the kitchen. Throughout the piece, we subtly see where the artist had the most fun, for example, the huge glass ceiling that casts this beautiful sunlight through the kitchen, and the warm lighting that radiates from it. In a way, it’s like a warm setting, and I’m a guest in the artist’s home, and this is his warm introduction.

The artwork makes me feel very warm and comforted. Even though the kitchen is based on minimalism, the drawing adds its own personality. The shading, lighting, and coloring give life to the illustration and soul. Overall, I get a hint of the artist’s personality and how he views the world.

Compared to other works of art, it is an absolute art. It represents art by illustrators, who are constantly unappreciated by the masses, yet our work is important and sought after. Illustrators don’t just draw; they add life, character, and personality to their pieces, almost like a baby. There’s always care and love when illustrators draw and create; it’s never just a drawing; there’s always meaning and passion behind each drawing.
