Dear Andrew Thompson,
My name is Maria Ramos, and I'm currently pursuing a degree in Illustration. I'm reaching out to share a creative project I'm developing that highlights historic abandoned Victorian homes, specifically 402 High St, Mount Holly, NJ. My idea is an art intervention (a temporary placement of artwork designed to challenge perception and spark conversations) that may raise community awareness about abandoned Victorian homes in our region, which I believe deserve attention and care. Since it's the Halloween season, it would be a brilliant idea to mix in spooky elements to the historic side of this house.
This homes, out of many, was once full of character and craftmanship, but now many are boarded up and forgotten, facing demolition. The core idea of this project is the belief that art can inspire change. I hope to highlight their history by transforming them into works of art to showcase their beauty and history. This will be achieved using remodel overlays, blueprints, projection mapping, and site installations to temporarily decorate the house with visual stories. We may use portraits of past residents (reimagined), glow-in-the-dark animatronics, or QR codes that share the home's history. I feel this may spark public interest, and they may (hopefully) have a blast during this art intervention.
I'm reaching out because your organization is important in preserving New Jersey's architectural heritage. Whether you can offer access to historical records, advice on permissions, or a point of contact, your insight would mean a great deal to my project. I believe that by working together, we can help preserve these abandoned Victorian homes and inspire others to see their beauty as we do.
Kind Regards,
Maria Ramos
