The instructions were not particularly clear, and I was unaware that our mock emails needed to be real and actually sent out. As a result, I had to make some last-minute adjustments regarding where I could install my art intervention by the end of the semester. I spoke with my boss, the owner of Black Moon Piercing Studios across New Jersey, and he has agreed to let me display my work in the waiting room of the Edison, NJ location. I believe this will be a strong site for the project, as the studio functions as a space for self-expression, something that aligns closely with the themes of mental health and self-acceptance central to my work.
People from all walks of life, of different ages, backgrounds, and personal stories walk into Black Moon. It’s exactly the kind of diverse audience I hope to reach.
My work will be laid out on the table in the waiting room, and no other materials besides the table are needed for display. Everybody who is waiting to be serviced will be able to view my work.
Below is a picture of the lobby. The coffee table in front of the couch is where I would display my plates and vase. Notecards on the side for those who want to write-in a response to the work.
1. All you'll need are the ceramic pieces. The table in which they'll be displayed will be provided.
2. When you enter the door 174 Lafayette Ave Edison, NJ, Black Moon is on your left side.
3. Clear the coffee table, leaving only the candles and black doily on top. Please place all other items behind the curtains next to the piercing room, that is our storage area.
4. Place my vase in the dead center of the table, with the notecards and two pens placed next to either side of it.
5. There are 4 plates. Place two on either side of the vase. Lay both plates diagonal from one another, one closer to the middle of the table and one closer to the edge.
6. Tape artwork label underneath the glass of the table with double sided tape. Tape it under the left corner of the table closest to the jewelry case across from the table. Face the label to be read seated on the couch.
7. Take pictures and confirm placements with Alex (owner) and I.
