Post 7/ Artist Statement: Clay/Caitlin Feeley/ Personal depth, Symbolic, and Playful

 Artist Statement:

My work explores the intersection of the mystical and the personal. Drawing inspiration from tarot, astrology, and my own personal life, I use these symbolic systems as tools to express and reflect on identity, relationships, and queer companionship. I’m interested in how meaning shifts- how symbols evolve in different contexts, how stories overlap, and how our sense of self is formed through layered experiences.

While I primarily work in digital illustration using tools like Procreate and Clip Studio Paint, I strongly connect to traditional media. I use graphite for sketching, enjoy the nostalgic quality of colored pencils and crayons, and often experiment with mixed media. I love combining watercolor or gouache with other materials to explore texture and depth. Gouache, in particular, has become a favorite for its expressive and versatile nature. I also try to keep all these elements true within my digital works.

Another way my work can be seen is as a form of visual divination or a possible mirror- a way of searching for understanding and mapping the emotional terrain of queer life. I aim to capture moments that resist linearity and easy categorization through visual layering, repetition, and symbolic storytelling. At its core, my practice is rooted in emotional depth, creation, and the ongoing joy of connecting.
