The art that I bring into the world is a love letter between music, comic books, and the world around me. I work both physically and digitally- physically with regular pencil and ink pens, and digitally on the Procreate program. My artwork mostly consists of superheroes, punk rock, and common people. I tie these all together through both exaggeration and a link to reality, whether it be through real-world problems or through heart. I try to make my art as dynamic and meaningful as possible. I want my art to carry weight while also following the Rule of Cool- bending some rules for aesthetic purposes. I take my work very seriously, but I never forget that, at the end of the day, I am allowed to have fun.
When I create, I keep my influences very close to my heart while also taking into account everything going on around me in the real world. Growing up with the works of Hirohiko Araki (creator of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure), Jack Kirby (creator of the Fantastic Four and the New Gods), and Shotaro Ishinomori (creator of Kamen Rider and Super Sentai) really shaped not only the art I wanted to make, but also my worldview- we are all we’ve got, and we have to look after each other like one big family. These days, everything seems so uncertain and constantly on the brink of collapse. Keeping all of this in mind, I decide to mix the fantastic worlds of comics with the unavoidable worlds of reality. I weaponize both of these to create art that combats the troubles of real life with whimsy and fantasy.
At my core, I want to be unifying. I hope people can walk away from my work feeling like someone in the world can understand and not feel alone in whatever they’re feeling. I hope people see themselves in my characters and stories and see the power they have within themselves to not only change the world, but better themselves.
