Post 1: BFA and "Beating Burnout with Self- Acceptance"- CTF

BFA Topic: The Tower

The Tower- This card symbolizes ambition built upon false premises. It's taught that the tower will collapse no matter what, as nothing unstable will stand, especially in the long run. Things that were believed are no longer aligned with who you are now, coming down and making way for something new. This card also talks about sudden changes, death, and rebirth, making way for new beginnings, chaos, upheaval, and awakening.

This project is a visual of my own emotional inner turmoil and re-evaluations of what my relationship with art looks like. The symbolism of the tower is about how my view of art has changed throughout the years, realizing that the foundation was unusable as I had put unrealistic expectations and pressure on myself to achieve, ultimately being its downfall. Although I’m still an artist, I love to create in the sense that it's all I’ve known, but I can’t help but realize that these ideals I had are hurting me now, and especially younger me, the one who was the most passionate, but also put these ideals in place. I’ve changed as a person throughout these years, and for art to continue with me, I need to accept that these expectations and ideals are dead and don't define me as an artist, and it doesn't mean I don't love art anymore. It's okay to change and start over.

These articles are about artists and their ways of dealing with burnout. Artists have a different relationship with burnout. Many articles talk about adding art into the person's life- what if that is what is, what's bringing you out!? Within art, it's easy to have it consume you and become a part of your worth, but the truth is, you're allowed to take breaks and not make work- you're a human before an artist.
