1. Consider your proposed BFA project and look for several relevant stories.
For my BFA project, I’m creating a cookbook focused on Día de los Muertos. Día de los Muertos is a holiday where you create an ofrenda. This cookbook will go beyond recipes. It will explore how food connects us to both memories and traditions of honoring loved ones who have passed. I want to include stories of how families create their grandparents' favorite meals. Each family has a different version of a specific food, such as mole, pozole, or tamales. This cookbook will show how cooking connects us to our past, our culture, and the bittersweet emotions that come along with remembering our loved ones.
3. Post a link to one relevant story that means a lot to you and explain why.
This story means a lot to me because it’s not just about explaining what Dia de los Muertos is, but about the way David Cáceres finds comfort in baking his mother’s recipe. Every year, David Cáceres and his family continue to bake her recipes as a way of keeping her memory alive. Not only that, they share their recipes with the world, and in the article, they say how their pan de dulce (sweet bread) has become a staple in some families. Each year, families come and buy this bread for the holiday to put on their ofrendas. I think it’s beautiful how they share their mother's recipe and carry on her legacy through this special holiday.
