For my BFA I want to create my own snail mail company. Snail mail, if you didn't know, is just a term used to describe sending physical mail. Throughout these recent years I have seen the rise of not only pen paling but subscription-based companies and wanted to merge those two ideas into one but put a twist on it. This company will send you a monthly art prints/postcard, and stickers with the occasional special item like a pin, tote bag, and or zine. Simple yet a good way to expand your art collection.
As stated by Susanne Blake in Newsweek's "Why Gen Z Is Bringing Back Snail Mail", this method of physical mail provides a "...personal touch, the reliability, the importance. People rely on mail for those important moments and essential communications that deserve more than a digital message." By sending these envelopes monthly consumers get to feel a sense of community for their shared love of art and trinkets.
I've been sending letters back and forth to my friend who lives in a different state and the feeling of anticipation of getting another letter is like none other and could not even begin to compare to the feeling of a simple text. I think especially in this age of everything being online, keeping the tradition of sending and receiving something is important to continue. "It's a subtle act of rebellion against their digital upbringing and now work life that's constantly exploiting their attention and data." It's a short-timed portal to a simpler time of connection.
