post 1/news article/‘how does myopia affect daily activities?”

at the age of 9, i was diagnosed with myopia. growing up with myopia was difficult at first, but as the years go by, you’re so used to the feeling of blurred vision, squinting at small words, going to the optometrist getting a check up of your eyes and ordering new glasses. it’s the new normal for me and while i do wear prescription glasses, it does affect me and the way i work, the way i study, the way i create art, etc. and what scares me the most is having to draw, paint, or write without my glasses, it’s like having some sort of separation anxiety with my glasses, i can’t leave without my glasses.

the article, “how does myopia affect daily activities” explains the cause of myopia, its disadvantages on daily activities and how to manage it. it’s important to understand why myopia affects day-to-day life, how lack of focus can affect your work ethic, daily activities like sports or extracurriculars, people have a hard time traveling and driving due to objects or traffic signs becoming unclear. there’s other issues, for example, ‘the causes of myopia?’ which is also a disadvantage for people with myopia. even while reading the article, i had a hard time focusing, my eyes strained and my vision started to become blurry.

my bfa project is about myopia and the way i see the world and how it affects people. i want to people to understand that myopia affects your everyday life, even at a such a young age. throughout my 2nd grade, i’ve struggled to see the whiteboard/chalkboard, and i wondered to myself “why is the board super blurry” and it’d frustrate me because my vision was blurry, could not focus and my grades dropped massively due to my myopia. and, i, sometimes wonder what it’s like to have 20/20 vision, what it’s like to see without blurred vision, not having eye strain or dry eyes. but when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.
