The name of the artist is Beshoy Erian, the work’s title is “Fire seen Through Light”, It was taken at a photography studio using a technique called stroboscopic lighting. The peculiar thing about this abstract piece is the effect caused by the usage of light/motion, and how it extends all around the piece. It portrays as if it’s trying to capture the essence of light that is going on all these different directions caused by motion itself. Tapping into the abstract meaning, giving it more depths of understanding, and learning the quality of the work created with unique equipment.
this artwork’s meaning is related to the Triangle Fire, and it advocates for work safety. the artist relates it to glimpses of horror the young immigrant workers went through due to neglect of work safety during that fire. The last image a person sees before they die can speak volumes, it’s like the peak of a story, the ending of your path. Now to have that type of setting, a fire that took many young immigrant lives, it’s horrifying, but it brings awareness to the stereotypes that still remain until this day. I can see a fire blazing image on this work, utilizing color as a conduct of emotion, interacting with the viewer and questioning reality itself.
This work makes me feel seen, as an immigrant myself this type of situations could still happen on the news today. Racism towards immigrants is at all times high at the moment, suppressing any type of media related to the topic. I can see the reality that happens in life through this work, not everything is full of color, but blazing red consuming reality.
This work is definitely art, it made me react and understand connections in history, advocating for immigrants lives and work safety through abstract meaning. It interacts with the viewer making a connection through color, and motion. As well as the usage of equipment to achieve such quality through digital photos, it shows dedication to the craft and skill that comes along with the technique to be able to create this type of motion effects. It communicates with the viewer and helps the artists grab the attention of the audience.
