To whom it may concern,
My name is Vianel Bonilla I'm currently a senior at New Jersey City University majoring in fine arts. I'm developing a participatory art intervention titled "More than a body (seen/unseen)", which explores the realities and consequences of the male gaze, oversexualization of women, as well as rape culture. Particularly how it is overlooked, normalized, or dismissed in everyday life. Im reaching out to introduce the project and to possibly gain a space to present the work.
Art interventions provide a way to disrupt or provoke reflection and encourage engagement. More than a body (seen/unseen) aligns with this very approach it creates an interactive experience that gives women the opportunity to speak out about their real life experiences. To further engage the public a cut out of a woman where other women can paste stickers with phrases or words the opposite sex has called them or said to them. As well as QR codes linking to a platform where individuals can anonymously share their experiences verbally. The audio recordings will be played on a loop allowing others to hear what's often silenced.
This acts as a multi-sensory approach which ensures the work is not just seen but heard and felt. I've provided a mock up sketch to give an idea of the display. I would love the opportunity to speak more on a space suitable for this art intervention. Thank you for your time, I hope to hear from you soon.
