Post 3 / Email / Depression's Effect on the Youth / Art Intervention

 Good afternoon, Professor Kruck,

We have spoken briefly via email in the past, but allow me to formally introduce myself. My name is Nicole Corvi, I am a multimedia artist from New Jersey concentrating in ceramic art. Currently, I am attending New Jersey City University working towards my B.F.A degree, and aim to be completed this coming Spring. I am reaching out to you regarding potentially setting up some of my artwork touching on the reality of depression's effect on the youth.

An art intervention is a creative act or installation that intentionally disrupts, challenges, or reshapes an existing social, cultural, or physical environment. Rather than existing solely for aesthetic purpose, art interventions are meant to engage the public directly inviting an emotional response toward a specific issue. These works often occupy public or communal spaces and serve as prompts for awareness or change by transforming how an audience perceives a familiar topic. Ideally, I would like to place this installation in the Visual Arts building, for students to view on a regular basis.

My project aligns with this concept through its focus on the realities of depression, and the often-suppressed emotions that accompany it. Today, depression is not often discussed and still misunderstood, especially among younger generations who struggle to articulate their experiences. Through my ceramic work, I aim to create a tangible, physical representation of these internal states, encouraging viewers to confront the discomfort associated with mental well-being. I am reaching out to you because I believe your perspective could help guide how this project can take form as a meaningful intervention. I want this not only to display art, but also open a space for conversation, empathy, and connection.

I am looking forward to hearing from you, and discussing this further. Feel free to contact me back via this email address.

Best,

Nicole Corvi
