I am a painter, working primarily in gouache and digital illustration. My work explores dichotomies and my identity in my surreal fantasies. My figures often appear in unsettling or pop-art- inspired settings that question ideas of beauty and power. I love to experiment with otherworldly, odd, and peculiar themes, such as dreams or unconventional settings like purgatory. There are times I create bubbly pieces of work, and other times, I embrace my negativity to exaggerate my work. Often, I paint fragments of my experiences and distort them as a way to heal myself from them. If I could relate this to literature or a technique, it would have to be how Dorian Grey's sins are hidden away behind a portrait of himself that serves as a proxy for his soul. The technique I can compare this to would be method acting. Which is why I enjoy working hand in hand with my emotions, to a fault, where I become extremely attached to them. To create my paintings, I need a familiar, empty, clean, and calm space to lock in; of course, Enya or Enigma always helps to set the stage to start painting. I aim for the viewer to feel uneasy (ultimate satisfaction), especially when the work leans towards bizarre themes. If not, they're probably animated by some of my work that may fall into the "eerily cute" category. That's okay, too.
